Colored Highlights, And Why I Love Them So Much!
2014 was all about the contour, 2015 was all about fleeky eyebrows and 2016 is all about the blinding highlight. Everywhere you go, you see faces that reflect light the same way a tin can would (in a good way of course). But it seems that the highlight trend is evolving. Instead of the traditional gold or silver tone highlights, more and more people have been seen sporting purple, blue, green even red highlights. This summer is really all about the colored highlight! YAS.
The first time I ever saw someone without the usual gold or silver toned highlight was Jeffree Star when he was sporting his own, Jeffree Star Cosmetics skin frost in "Mint Condition", and I instantly fell in love. (Hey Jeffree, can your restock like now?!). Unfortunately I've never had the chance to try his skin frosts on myself but I saw a friend of mine sporting "Mint Condition" and I literally fell in love. She looked like a gorgeous mermaid covered in green butter (in the best way possible LOL). But since then Anastasia Beverly Hills released the Moonchild glowkit which is a palette of six different colored highlights, and I had the chance to try them on myself last night (It's also taken social media by storm and is currently sold out but should be restocked soon!). Let's just say I had non makeup wearers raving on my snap feed on how beautiful they looked, but most of all I fell in love! (A swatch and first impressions should be up on Tuesday, so watch out for that!)
I'm so boring and traditional when it comes to makeup but one thing I do not play with is my highlight LOL. What I love so much about colored highlights are the fact that they get me out of my comfort zone and I can try something different while still keeping me in the realm of what I like. Now don't get me wrong, colored highlights are not your everyday highlight but it's definitely a fun night out look (I'll probably be sporting moonchild for Saturday's Fifth Harmony concert but that's a whole 'nother post in itself LOL). If you want to try out this trend but don't want to go out and search for a specialty colored highlight grab some eyeshadow and a fan brush and make those cheekbones and inner corner glow red, blue, green, yellow or all of the above LOL.
