Favorite Beauty & Skin Care Products of 2016
I absolutely cannot believe that 2016 is over. It's almost as if each year flies by quicker than the last. 2016 was an amazing year for myself, I got to grow as a beauty influencer, person and I am more inspired than I have ever been in my entire life. I've also been able to try some amazing products that have kept me looking my best. Here are my picks for favorite beauty products of 2016.
Foundation: Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Longwear Foundation SPF 21
I recently discovered the Lancome stick foundation at a recent Sephora trip. One of the associates had raved about how it was one of the best stick foundations she had ever used and how I had to try it out. I was a little apprehensive since the $42.00 price tag was a little hefty for a stick foundation but it was definitely worth it. The foundation applies onto the skin like butter, it blends easily with both a foundation brush and beauty blender, and it leaves a beautiful soft matte finish that gives off the appearance of supple, flawless skin. And did I mention it has SPF 21? Yes to protection from the sun.
Concealer: Kat Von D 'Lock It' Concealer Creme
2016 was an amazing year for Kat Von D Beauty. With numerous eye shadow palette releases and the reformulated concealer as well as the addition of foundation shades, Kat Von D managed to show other cosmetic companies that they are a force to be reckoned with. When it was initially announced that the concealer formula would change, I began to panic. I was obsessed with the original concealer and would have never imagined liking a different formula. I was wrong... extremely wrong! This concealer does not crease, it is full coverage, and blends like no other.
Highlighter: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed - Opal
This is my favorite highlighter of life. (Felt that I needed to clear that up since this is a favorite beauty products of 2016 post) I have history with this highlighter as it was my very first highlighter when I began my makeup journey. It looks great on any skin color, and regardless of the intensity you are going off it leaves the most beautiful glow without ever looking ashy. Need I say more?
Contour: Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation - Cocoa
So I've truly fallen in love with stick foundation this year, and my love affair began with the release of the Anastasia Beverly Hills stick foundations. Now for my actual complexion it falls a close second, just behind the Lancome stick foundation but as for contouring it is Ah-mazing! There are a ton of contour kits out there but nothing makes contouring easier than a stick foundation. The formula for the Anastasia Beverly Hills stick foundation makes blending into any other foundation effortless, which is essential when contouring. The official contour shades in the line are "Shadow", "Fawn" and "Mink" but if you are a deeper skin tone such as myself I would recommend using the shade "Cocoa". (Changed my life)
Primer: Make Up For Ever Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primer - Hydrating
I am a little bit of a primer addict, I fully believe that everyone MUST wear primer in order to properly provide a barrier between nourishing skin care and cosmetic products. Skin care is meant to sink into the skin and without primer being applied, the harsher ingredients in foundation, concealer etc will sink right in with it causing clogged pores, cystic acne and completely off balance the skin. Make Up For Ever has a TON of different primers for a variety of needs but the hydrating primer is perfect for combination skin. It provides the right amount of moisture without making the skin feel greasy or oily, but also provides a slight tacky feel that will help any makeup stay on, and looking fresh for the entire day!
Setting Spray: Gerard Cosmetics 'Slay All Day' Spray
2016 saw the debut of the now must have setting spray, Gerard Cosmetics 'Slay All Day'. It comes in numerous scents, my favorites being lemongrass, cucumber and peach. It easily removes the 'ashy' look that powder will leave, and refreshes the feel of makeup throughout the day. It doesn't hurt that it comes in travel size as well. (clutch size products are a must for those long nights out!)
Cleanser: Purlisse Blue Lotus 4-In-1 Cleansing Milk
Is there anything the Purlisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Cleansing Milk can't do? I don't know what magic Jen Yen (Creator of Purlisse) put into her products but they have worked wonders for my skin! The cleanser is perfect for someone who wants dirt and makeup (yes, even mascara) to glide off the skin. It is ideal for all skin types, and best of all it also serves as a toner. (If you know me, you know I am crazy about toner)
Toner: Neutrogena Alcohol Free Toner
Speaking of toner, the Neutrogena Alcohol Free Toner has been my go to toner for as long as I remember. The alcohol free formula removes all traces of makeup and dirt that any cleanser has left behind, while not stripping the skin of it's essential oils. Win, win.
Exfoliator: Enhance Skin Care Illuminating Scrub
I recently came across this baby while at the Enhance Aesthetic offices in Brooklyn and fell in love at first use. Described as a skin polish, it has lactic acid that leaves the skin smoother with a balanced complexion. The exfoliant is mild but does an impeccable job at removing texture and any excess dry skin. A little goes a very long way!
Eye Cream: Purlisse 4-In-1 Eye Adore Serum
I'm telling you guys, there is magic in Purlisse products! I had begun developing very fine lines in my under eye area from constantly applying concealer, as well as tugging and scratching away that mascara itch, and I began to search for the perfect eye cream. I came across the Purlisse 4-In-1 Eye Adore Serum after trying out the cleanser mentioned above and it has changed my life. I was never a daily eye cream kind of person but after seeing the benefits from constant application (decreased puffiness, brightened skin and awake looking eyes), I have not gone one day without applying some while getting out of the shower in the morning and also right before going to bed at night.
Dark Spot Corrector: H2O+ Beauty Waterbright Dark Spot Corrector
Whenever I get a pimple, I know that I will have a constant reminder of where exactly it was for weeks, even after its gone. Hyper-pigmentation is my worst enemy and loves to just hang out on my face. I was able to combat these dreaded dark spots using the H2O+ Beauty Water Bright Dark Spot Corrector, with my dark spots fading in as quickly as one week. Thank you skin gods!
Mask: Fresh Black Tea Firming Overnight Mask
LIFE. That is exactly what the Fresh Black Tea Firming Overnight mask has given me. The $92.00 price tag will discourage most on a budget but a little goes a long way, and the product will last for months. I apply the mask right after shaving, and also a night before a special event and always wake up with smooth, poreless skin. (It helps that it smells amazing too) The mask gives your an intense skin hydration that will have you feeling completely refreshed and regenerated.
Lip Balm: Purlisse Daily Lip Nourisher
I've always had a really hard time finding a lip balm that nourishes without having to be reapplied constantly throughout the day, so when I found this baby I was elated to have a lip balm that felt was made for me. With Mango & Shea butters, Jojoba & Rice Bran oils and Vitamin E, your lips are sure to stay supple the entire day.
