Night Skin Routine
My skin has absolutely transformed since I decided to undergo a strict night routine. Your skin rejuvenates and repairs itself from everyday exposure to pollution, makeup, dirt and other external factors while you sleep. It is essential to prep the skin to maximize this rejuvenation process. No matter the skin type, properly cleansing, toning, and moisturizing before going to bed is crucial to the health of your skin.
Step 1: Remove Makeup
If you wear makeup like I do then you know the feeling of absolute relief it is to remove it after a very long day. It is a therapeutic ritual, like lifting off the stress of the day from your face. I typically remove my makeup with the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes. The wipe is an easy and effective way to remove the makeup. Whether you use a wipe or oil to as a makeup remover, it is crucial to remove makeup before using a cleanser. (Most cleansers are unable to fully break down makeup)
Step 2: Cleanser
Now that you have fully removed all traces of makeup you can now cleanse the skin. Using a cleanser will clear the skin of any leftover dirt, as well as any harsh preservatives present in many makeup remover wipes. I love cleansers with milky formulas as they cleanse the skin without stripping the its natural oils. My favorite as of lately is the Purlisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Cleansing Milk. (It's ah-mazing)
Step 3: Toner
The holy grail of skincare, this step transformed my skin. Toners restore the skin to its ideal pH level of 5.5. All skincare products are formulated to work on this ideal pH level (anywhere between 5.5 - 7), and may work at a reduced level of efficiency at a higher or lower pH level. Toners also complete the cleansing process of the skin and will further eliminate any impurities left behind by your cleanser. Neutrogena's Alcohol Free Toner is great for all skin types, and won't dry out the skin the way alcohol based toners will. (Which is a big no, no.)
Step 4: Night Cream
As I mentioned before, the skin goes through a rejuvenation process while you sleep so using a cream that will utilize this process is essential to glowing healthy skin in the morning. I use H2O+ Beauty Waterbright Illuminating Night Cream to help combat the stubborn dark spots I am prone too getting. Packed with Vitamin C, using this cream nightly will result in a radiant, even complexion.
Step 5: Eye Cream
I don't care if you're 35 or 16, everyone should be applying an eye cream! This is arguably the most neglected step in the skin routines of most, but one of the most important. The area under the eye and under the brow bone is prone to tugging, resulting in premature wrinkles. (No one wants Crows feet) My go to eye cream for night is H2O+ Beauty's Infinity+ Firming Eye Therapy. With Camellia Japonica Oil infused to promote collagen production and biotech extract to increase elasticity, your eyes are sure to look youthful, alert and wrinkle free.
Step 6: Lip Balm
Lips need some love too! After being exposed to acidity in food and the harsh, drying winter weather your lips are craving moisture. My recent lip balm of choice is Rosebud Perfume Co.'s Menthol and Eucalyptus Lip Balm. This multi purpose balm treats razor burn, diaper rash and is formulated without parabens, sulfates or phthalates. (Your lips will thank you!)
