What I'm Thankful For...
So I haven't updated my "Life" blog in a while and figured what better day to reflect and talk to you guys on a more personal level than on Thanksgiving. People seem to forget the essence of Thanksgiving, given to the continual corporatization of holidays in the modern world. What used to be a holiday meant to give thanks, spend time with your family, and thank nature for the abundant harvest has turned into a day of parades, preparing for sales, and expensive flights that your airline refuses to give any points for. (But that's a whole other post..) I figured I'd get into the true spirit of Thanksgiving and talk to you, one on one.
There are so many things I am thankful for. This year has brought an abundance of amazing people and experiences that have inspired me to be better every single day. The beginning of the year saw the birth of my social media presence. I began receiving recognition from my favorite cosmetic brands (Shoutout to Anastasia Beverly Hills & Kat Von D for being my first supporters, love you!), I began traveling to the West Coast which was a dream a mine for years. I experienced amazing events and began to believe that I could truly make a life out of my passion. The arrogance began to set in and I started to see a decline. The likes weren't as high, the reposts weren't happening as often, the amount of opportunities seemed to dwindle and I started to get into a bit of a rut. I began to question if this was what I was meant to do. It was the best thing that ever happened, and I'm thankful for this period of time! You're probably wondering "Why were you thankful for this seemingly negative time?". Well, I could've continued to dig myself deeper into this hole or come out more inspired than ever. Climbing out of that rut gave me an immense amount of ambition and an added appreciation for all influencers out there.
I am extremely thankful for my beautiful family. The amount of support that I receive from each one of you is truly felt and I don't know to repay you. I do this for all of you! To my sister and mom, I thank you for believing in me, even when I started not to. To my dad, I thank you for being such an amazing example to all fathers out there to love their children unconditionally, no matter what interests they may have, sexual orientation etc. I love you guys!
To my amazing friends, who I've created countless lifelong memories this year alone, I'm thankful for continually having my back and supporting my dreams.
And last but not least, I am thankful for you. Your love and support has guided, inspired and given me a reason to push through. My favorite part of the day is responding back to your comments and messages, and knowing that I was able to make your day a little bit better. I can't wait to make you proud.
I also want to acknowledge the events that are currently happening in North Dakota with the Native Americans protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline. Constantly being hosed down with water, shot with plastic bullets and being sprayed with tear gas for protecting their sacred land and water supply. We must keep them in our thoughts and hearts!
